How to use specific terminals of powerful fencee energizers?

The green or yellow output terminal on our energizers may be of great benefit in farming your animals.

The green or yellow output terminal on powerful energizers fencee energy DUO ED and Smart energizers energy DUO RF EDX may be of great benefit in farming your animals. So let's describe it better how to connect these terminals correctly and what benefits bring to your elctric fences.

Using the yellow terminal with reduced output the second fence, in which smaller animals are kept, may be supplied or it may be connected separately to the fence’s lower wire to deal with overgrown vegetation.

The green terminal is a useful aid in determining the quality of earthing and also to measure the earthing on your electric fence.

Yellow terminal with reduced output

The terminal with reduced output may be found on energizers energy DUO ED and on Smart energizers energy DUO RF EDX. The yellow terminal is all set with the reduced power output to roughly half, thanks to which it has two options available for its use for connecting to the electric fence. Each connection has its specific characteristics and it is up to you which connection you choose.

Connecting second fence for younger or smaller animals

Connecting the electric fence to the yellow terminal is a very practical solution, which will be appreciated particularly by breeders who keep young and smaller animals, such as ponies, foals, calves, lambs and others. In such case, the breeder keeps adult animals in one fence connected to the full-power terminal, while in the other fence connected to the reduced output terminal younger or smaller animals, for which half the impulse is perfectly adequate, may be kept. Using the yellow terminal, several fences with different voltages, may be supplied by one energizer. For example, one large fence for cows and another, smaller fence for horses.

Connecting separately to fence’s lower wire

The second option of using the yellow terminal with reduced power is for connecting the fence’s lower wire, where tall grass is expected to grow. Such connection will be appreciated by users who do not wish the energizer's performance to be affected by tall grass, which causes losses when in contact with the wires and "conducts" the voltage to the ground.

Connecting the lower wire to the yellow terminal avoids such voltage losses. Energizer output will not be affected in any way. On the other wires standardly connected to the red terminal with full voltage, full power will be measured.

Our tip: Our powerful DUO energy energizers clearly show the electric fence load status on their display. Thus the condition of your fence may be quickly and easily found out and whether the grass is already high enough to cut down. The energizer displays five load conditions on its LCD display, which indicate the vegetation height.

Displaying the fence load readings on fencee DUO ED energy energizer and DUO RF EDX energy energizer LCD displays

Electric fence load readings displayed on the LCD display:

  • > 1,000 Ohm    Short fence with minimum vegetation
  • 1,000 Ohm       Middle fence slightly overgrown
  • 500 Ohm          Longer fences lightly overgrown
  • 300 Ohm          Longer fence moderately overgrown or slightly overgrown after rain
  • < 300 Ohm      Densely overgrown fence with high voltage losses

Green terminal for connecting earthing check rod

Smart energizers energy  DUO RF EDX are provided with a new feature, namely the green terminal for connecting the energizer to the earthing check rod to very easily found out if the existing earthing is adequate or requires upgrading by adding earthing rod or its dampening.

Let's take a look at how to correctly connect energizer to the terminal for earthing check. For correct checking the earthing check rod must be installed. It should be located at least 10 meters from the existing electric fence earthing. The further the earthing check rod will be installed, the more accurate the measurement will be. Use non-corroding earthing rod; we recommend using round 75 cm long rod. Connect it by using high voltage cable to the energy DUO RF EDX energizer green terminal.

After connecting the earthing rod, use the energizer’s control buttons to select the screen showing the earthing check; earthing icon will show on the display. Subsequently, the energizer screen will start displaying the electric fence impedance readings. To carry out the earthing check, the fence resistance must be less than 500 Ohms. If the fence resistance is less than 500 Ohms, then the checking takes place automatically and the earthing check screen displays the voltage difference, which is assessed according to the table below. If it is greater, then the fence must be manually short circuited to reach the value below 500 Ohms.

To short-circuit the electric fence, rest the iron rod on the fence wire at the distance of at least 50 m from the energizer. Short-circuiting may also be carried out by hammering the earthing rod into the ground and then connecting it to the fence wire. When the fence resistance is less than 500 Ohms, then the earthing check screen displays the voltage difference, which is assessed according to the table below.

Table:

Earthing check readings shown on the energizer display Status
0 - 0,20 kV All OK
0,20 - 0,50 kV Check earthing; add another earthing rod as a precaution
> 0,5 kV Repairs must be carried out or earthing rod added

If the energizer screen showing the earthing check display shows only a dash, it indicates that the earthing rod is not connected to the checking terminal or that the electric fence wire is not adequately short-circuited.

Energizer correctly connected to the earthing check will make your work easier as it checks the earthing values almost continuously. Thus you don't have use a tester and measure the fences by short-circuiting and testing. From now on, you are able to always view the earthing readings at a glance. Your smartphone, via the fencee Cloud application, also shows the earthing readings.

Please contact us, if you are unable to connect the energizer to carry out earthing check correctly or if you are going to connect the second fence, where young animals are kept, to the terminal with reduced output and you are not sure about the correct procedure. Our technical department will be pleased to advise you.
